The Maine Coon cat is also a product of "survival of the fittest". The
Maine Coon is North America's only native long-haired cat. Believed to be a result
of long-haired European cats that travelled here on settlers' ships, and short-haired
domestic cats from the coast of New England. Their long water-resistant coat enabled
the Maine Coon to survive the harsh New England winters. Maine Coons are very loyal,
smart, and loving. If you meet one you'll want one. And if you have one,
you'll want another.
